Good reading :)
Important reminder: Everyone on the internet is a real person.
Go read this. It’s really important.
Be kind to one another.
Public Domain Use from US Government–Crescent Lake
I’ve been reading a lot lately (and researching) ghost stories from western Washington—especially up near the Port Townsend, Port Gamble, and Lake Crescent area. (Why? Because I’m writing about that area right now—the first Fly By…

I’m actually concerned for boys who complain about how different girls look without makeup. Like did you think eyeshadow permanently alters a girls eyelid? Are you frightened when people change clothes
Deep Spring Magic, by Ms. Graveyard Dirt
Deep spring magic featuring homegrown anemones, bluebells, cherry blossoms, forget-me-nots, and tulips.
Telling it like it is. “Hatred is not mental illness. It’s an emotion. And it can be controlled.”
When I was a freshman, my sister was in eighth grade. There was a boy in two of her periods who would ask her out every single day. (Third and seventh period, if I remember correctly.) All day during third and seventh she would repeatedly tell him no. She didn’t beat around…

“I love women,” is not a get out of jail free card. Thicke pulled the same bullshit when he was accused of degrading women in “Blurred Lines”: “When we made the song, we had nothing but the most respect for women,” he said. How nice of you to say so, Mr. Thicke. Alas, your work shows the opposite to be true. I am fairly certain many of the men who buy sex and consume porn also think they do it because they really, really, love women. NOPE. You love women like I love wine — as something I consume selfishly for my personal benefit and as a product.
Meghan Murphy (No, “female-appreciation” is not the same thing as feminism)

And that is why I fucking HATE that song and anyone that disagrees with the above statement.

Fucking solid metaphor.

When everyone was shaming Miley Cyrus (and I’ll cop to not thinking and saying that her performance was cringe worthy), I recall asking why so few people were talking about Thicke’s participation in the spectacle. If she’s a young woman who should have more self respect or whatever people were saying, he’s a grown man who should certainly know that what he’s part of is objectifying a young woman in a way that is maybe not awesome at all.

Netflx, Amazon and Google will survive just fine on a non-neutral internet. They can pay the bills. It’s the other guys, the new and innovative startups that will provide the necessary competition, who may get left behind.
The MPAA, RIAA and others seemed to hope that without net neutrality, the internet could be crafted into a system more like cable TV, with more centralized power and less innovation. But hopefully they now realize that’s not a good thing. It would be good if they finally spoke up about it, though.
